Which boiler is right for your home?
The right boiler depends on how many bathrooms you have, how many people use hot water at the same time, and whether your home already has a hot water cylinder. We look at all three during the survey, because the cheapest boiler on paper is not always the cheapest to live with.
Combi boilers
A combi boiler heats water on demand straight from the mains, so there is no hot water cylinder and no tank in the loft. Combi boilers suit flats and smaller houses with one bathroom, which describes a lot of the conversions and terraces in Putney, Wandsworth and Fulham.
System boilers
A system boiler heats a stored hot water cylinder but takes its water from the mains, so there are no loft tanks. System boilers suit family homes with two or more bathrooms, because several taps and showers can run at once without the pressure dropping.
Regular (heat only) boilers
A regular boiler works with a cold water tank in the loft and a hot water cylinder. Regular boilers are often the sensible choice in older houses with existing gravity-fed pipework, because replacing like for like avoids disruptive pipe changes.
What a Swift 24-7 boiler installation includes
- Home survey. We check your heat demand, hot water use, gas supply, flue route and condensate drain, then recommend the right boiler size rather than the biggest one.
- Flat rate quote. You get one fixed price for the agreed work, so you know exactly what you are paying for before we start.
- Removal of the old boiler. The old boiler and any redundant pipework are removed and disposed of responsibly.
- System clean. We clean the heating system and add inhibitor, because sludge from an old system shortens the life of a new boiler and can void its guarantee. A magnetic filter is fitted to keep the water clean.
- Controls. We fit a programmer and room thermostat that meet current Building Regulations, with smart control options if you want to manage your heating from your phone.
- Commissioning and paperwork. The boiler is commissioned, the Benchmark checklist is completed, the installation is notified to Building Control through Gas Safe, and the manufacturer's guarantee is registered for you.
How long does a boiler installation take?
A like-for-like boiler swap usually takes one day. Moving a boiler to a new position or converting a regular system to a combi usually takes two to three days, because pipework, the flue and sometimes the gas supply need to change. We confirm the timescale in your quote so you can plan around it.
