Choosing the right new tap
A new tap that does not suit your plumbing will disappoint, however good it looks. Three things matter:
- Water pressure. Homes with a combi boiler or unvented cylinder have mains pressure hot water. Homes with a loft tank have low-pressure, gravity-fed hot water, which needs taps designed for low pressure.
- Number of tap holes. A one-hole basin needs a monobloc mixer, and a two-hole basin needs pillar taps or a two-hole mixer.
- Spout reach and height. The spout needs to reach over the basin bowl without splashing.
If you have not bought a tap yet, tell us your setup and we will advise what will work.
What is included
- Isolating the water and removing the old taps, including stubborn corroded back nuts.
- Fitting isolation valves under the basin if there are none, so future maintenance does not mean turning off the whole house.
- Fitting the new taps with new flexible connectors.
- Testing for leaks and flow, and resealing around the basin if required.
