About Swift 24-7

Which areas do Swift 24-7 Plumbers cover?

Swift 24-7 Plumbers is based on Robin Hood Lane in Putney, SW15, and covers South West London, including Putney, Roehampton, Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Kingston, New Malden, Richmond, Twickenham, Teddington, Barnes, Fulham, Chelsea and Battersea. If your area is not listed, call us and ask.

Are you available 24 hours a day?

Yes. Our phone line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for plumbing and heating emergencies such as burst pipes, major leaks and loss of heating or hot water.

How does your flat rate pricing work?

All scheduled work is quoted at a flat rate that is agreed before the job starts. You know exactly what you are paying for, and the price does not creep up while the engineer is in your home.

What does the 12-month warranty cover?

Every job comes with a 12-month warranty on our workmanship. If something we fixed or fitted goes wrong because of our work within 12 months, we come back and put it right at no cost to you.

Are your plumbers qualified and insured?

Yes. Every Swift 24-7 plumber and heating engineer is qualified and DBS checked, gas work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers, and we hold public liability insurance up to £5 million.

Do you take on small jobs?

Yes. Small jobs are a big part of what we do. A dripping tap, a running toilet or a faulty ball valve gets the same care as a new boiler installation.

Do you work for landlords, letting agents and businesses?

Yes. Swift 24-7 carries out domestic and commercial installations, maintenance and repairs for homeowners, letting agents, landlords and businesses, including annual landlord gas safety certificates.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Leave the property, do not use electrical switches or naked flames, turn off the gas at the meter if it is safe, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Once the supply has been made safe, call us to repair the fault.

Boiler installation

Boiler installation details
Do I need a power flush before a new boiler is installed?

A new boiler needs clean system water to work properly and to keep its manufacturer guarantee valid. We assess the condition of your system at the survey and recommend either a chemical clean or a full power flush, depending on how much sludge is in the radiators.

Will you register the boiler guarantee for me?

Yes. Swift 24-7 registers the manufacturer guarantee, completes the Benchmark commissioning checklist and notifies Building Control through Gas Safe, so all the paperwork is done when we leave.

Boiler repairs

Boiler repairs details
Which boiler brands do you repair?

Swift 24-7 engineers repair all the common domestic gas boiler brands found in London homes, including combi, system and regular boilers. Tell us the make and model when you call so we can bring the most likely parts.

Can you fix my boiler on the first visit?

Many repairs are completed on the first visit because we triage the fault by phone and carry common parts. If a specific part has to be ordered, we make the boiler safe and return to fit it as soon as the part arrives.

Boiler service

Boiler service details
How long does a boiler service take?

A standard boiler service usually takes under an hour. It can take longer if the boiler needs cleaning or a part such as a seal or condensate trap needs replacing.

Is a boiler service the same as a gas safety certificate?

No. A boiler service is maintenance of the boiler, while a landlord gas safety certificate (often called a CP12) records safety checks on every gas appliance in a rented property. Swift 24-7 can do both on the same visit.

Central heating power flushing

Central heating power flushing details
Will a power flush fix cold spots on my radiators?

If the cold spots are at the bottom or middle of the radiators, they are usually caused by sludge, and a power flush normally clears them. Cold spots at the top are usually trapped air, which bleeding the radiator fixes.

How often does a heating system need power flushing?

Most systems only need a power flush when symptoms appear or when a new boiler is fitted. Keeping inhibitor topped up and fitting a magnetic filter helps the system stay clean for many years afterwards.

Ball valve replacement

Ball valve replacement details
Why is my overflow pipe dripping outside?

A dripping overflow pipe usually means a ball valve in a toilet cistern or loft tank is not shutting off. The valve washer or diaphragm has worn, or the float is set too high. Replacing or adjusting the valve stops the overflow.

Can you fix a noisy cistern?

Yes. Hissing, whistling and banging when a cistern refills are usually caused by an old-style ball valve. Fitting a modern quiet-fill valve normally solves the noise.

Bathroom tap repair

Bathroom tap repair details
Can you repair any make of tap?

We can repair most taps. Standard washers and many ceramic cartridges are carried in the van. For designer or older taps, we identify the exact cartridge needed and source it, or recommend a replacement tap if parts are no longer made.

How long does a tap repair take?

Most tap repairs take less than an hour once the correct parts are on hand.

Bathroom tap replacement details
Can I supply my own taps?

Yes. Swift 24-7 fits customer-supplied taps. Check the tap is rated for your water pressure before buying, or send us the product details and we will confirm it will work.

Why is my new tap flow weak?

Weak flow from a new tap is usually a mismatch between a high-pressure tap and a low-pressure, gravity-fed hot water system. It can also be a partly closed isolation valve or a restrictor in the tap. We check pressure before fitting to avoid this.

Quooker & boiling water tap installation

Quooker & boiling water tap installation details
Do you service Quooker taps?

Yes. Swift 24-7 services and repairs Quooker taps and other boiling water taps, including descaling, filter changes and fixing leaks. We are an independent plumbing company and not part of Quooker.

Do I need an electrician for a boiling water tap?

The tank needs a switched socket in the sink cupboard. If there is already one in place, we can complete the installation. If not, an electrician needs to install it before or on the day of fitting.

Shower pump repair

Shower pump repair details
Why does my shower pump keep turning on by itself?

A shower pump that switches on when nothing is running is detecting flow, which usually means a leak on the pumped pipework or a dripping tap or shower valve. Fixing the leak normally stops the pump running on.

Can I fit a shower pump to a combi boiler?

No. Shower pumps must not be used with combi boilers or on mains water. They are designed for gravity-fed systems with a cold water tank and hot water cylinder.

Emergency plumbing

Emergency plumbing details
Do you really answer the phone 24 hours a day?

Yes. Swift 24-7 Plumbers runs a 24 hour phone line for emergencies across South West London, 7 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays.

Where is my stopcock?

In most houses the stopcock is under the kitchen sink. Other common places are under the stairs, in a downstairs toilet, or in a cupboard near the front door. In flats it can be in a utility cupboard or a communal riser. It is worth finding before you need it.

Emergency heating

Emergency heating details
Can you supply temporary heaters?

If a repair needs a part that has to be ordered, we will discuss options for keeping vulnerable occupants warm in the meantime. Ask when you call.

My boiler is leaking. Should I switch it off?

Yes. If water is coming from the boiler, switch it off at the fused spur, turn off the water to the boiler if you can, and keep water away from electrics. Then call us.

Gas safety certificates

Gas safety certificates details
How long is a gas safety certificate valid?

A landlord gas safety check must be carried out every 12 months. The check can be done up to two months before the deadline while keeping the original renewal date.

What happens if an appliance fails the check?

If an appliance is unsafe, the engineer will explain the problem, record it on the certificate and, with your permission, disconnect it or make it safe. We quote for the repair so the appliance can pass.

Toilet repairs

Toilet repairs details
Can you fix a toilet that keeps running?

Yes. A running toilet is usually caused by a worn flush valve seal or a fill valve that is not shutting off. Both parts can be replaced on the same visit in most cases.

Do you replace whole toilets?

Yes. If the pan is cracked or the toilet is too old to repair economically, we can supply and fit a new toilet or fit one you have chosen.
