Signs your ball valve has failed
- Water is dripping or running from an overflow pipe on the outside wall.
- The toilet cistern keeps filling, hisses or never seems to stop.
- The cistern fills very slowly or not at all.
- You hear banging pipes (water hammer) when the cistern refills.
- The cold water tank in the loft is overflowing or running low.
A dripping overflow is worth fixing quickly, because a constantly running valve wastes a surprising amount of water and an overflow that blocks or freezes can flood a loft.
Repair or replace?
Older brass ball valves can sometimes be repaired with a new washer or diaphragm. In most cases it is better value to replace the valve with a modern quiet-fill valve, because modern valves are quieter, more reliable and easy to adjust. We match the replacement to your cistern, whether it is side-entry or bottom-entry, and to your water pressure.
What is included
- Isolating the water supply and draining the cistern or tank.
- Removing the old valve and fitting the correct replacement.
- Setting the water level so the cistern or tank stops below the overflow.
- Checking the overflow pipe and flush mechanism while we are there.
